elementalhero: NO PANTS (Robin Hood [ded])

Movies!

I saw two movies tonight.

...was awful. I have read all five books in the series, and I can say that the movie not only stripped the plot down to its most basic elements, it took the characters, twisted and crushed them until they were down to the most offensively stereotypical incarnations of themselves, and then ignored it all in favor of showing off the special effects. I hate Chris Columbus. I really just loathe him. As a filmmaker. I want to just. Ugh. Annabeth turned into some kind of amalgamation of the barest elements of her character and Clarice's character, and was then completely stripped of personality and turned into The Girl. She's a daughter of Athena and she did NOTHING. NOTHING. GOD-FRACKING-DAMNIT. And then there's Grover, who was turned into the Black Best Friend (complete with general ineffectiveness and Lame Jive Slang).

I just.

/sob.

BUT THEN....

...WAS THE GREATEST DISNEY MOVIE IN A LONG TIME. OMFG. I WAS LIKE. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH. THE MUSIC, THE CHARACTERS, THE VILLAIN, THE ARTWORK, THE EVERYTHING, THE AAAAAH I WAS SO HAPPY EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. /NO WOOOOOOOOOOOOORDS

So yeah.

;; I haven't seen Percy Jackson yet, but now I'm worried because I've just finished The Lightning Thief, and ;~~~;

BUT OMG, THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG IS THE GREATEST THING. =3 I've seen it three times. /special

I normally never like to outright tell people not to see movies, but I cannot in good conscience say anything complimentary about this movie. If you go, I hope you enjoy the movie-going experience, but I wouldn't advise it. In any way. At all. (I DO, however, fully support you reading the rest of the books :Db)

AAAAAH I want to see it more times, but it's out of our local theaters. I only got to see it through our on-campus free movie weekend service. But omg yes, I was like. Flailing the whole time. I FULLY WANT THIS MOVIE IN THE NEXT KINGDOM HEARTS.

I already feel really iffy about books being made into movies, because I know people are going to somehow mess it all up. ;; (Oh, totally already bought the second book, so no worries there 8Db)

It should be coming to DVD soon, I would assume. =3 And when it does, I'm totally spending my last few dollars on it. XD

I usually don't care if a movie follows the book too closely, so long as the characters remain compelling, the plot still makes sense, and the movie works as a movie (i.e. good cinematography and things). Columbus's take on Percy Jackson did none of these things.

Saaaaaaame.

Ah, that movie looked pretty damn bad.

Princess and the Frog is awesomeness, though, isn't it? X3

That movie sounded really bad in the commercials, even though I heard good things about the books, so now I feel vindicated.

But Princess and the Frogggg it's so good!!

Definitely need to see PatF...after I see Avatar...and Shutter Island...

I don't see movies too often. Can you tell?

[identity profile] okroginator.livejournal.com 2010-02-21 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I kind of want to see Shutter Island. I'm not so sure about Avatar--I know it's eye candy, which is a thing I like in movies, but after all the hype going back and forth and back and forth about it, I kind of don't really feel like seeing it just because I know it will never live up for me in either direction. I know it can't possibly be as mind-blowingly good as some people are making it out to be, and I also know it can't possibly be as bad as others are.

So I'll go, and not be excited about it, and not be angry about it. And I hate coming out of a movie and not feeling strongly either way about it.

I feel the same way about movies in general. It's really hard to take a risk on a movie (considering how much they cost) and feel like you've come out with an experience that's been worth it (being either awesome or totally awful and hilarious).

Yay for the Princess and the Frog!!
