Anime club last night: we're watching Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.


I spent the entirety of the seventh episode (I missed last week's meeting where we watched the first six :/ had to wiki the summaries just to catch up) with my mouth open.

Where has this series been all my life?

I should preface this by saying that I feel incredibly guilty for enjoying this show as much as I do. To simplify it a lot and be very cynical, you can boil the entire show down to two words: Penis envy. It's a show by men for men, full of female fanservice (and male, I hasten to add; see also: Kamina), about hot-bloodedness and who can be more masculine and MANRY and such. Non-main female characters are essentially there for fanservice only (or are depraved villains :/ even though I kind of like Adiane for no reason) and the one who is the most badass also dresses like a stripper.

I should be mostly exasperated with this at the very least, and yet, I am in love with this show. /sob, is a bad feminist ;;

I mean, I am a fan of overly silly things. It's how I relax! I'm quite easily entertained, in all honesty. And man, is TTGL entertaining.

You've got EXPROSIONS, NO LAWS OF PHYSICS EVER, REALLY RIDICULOUSLY SILLY PHALLIC IMAGERY WHICH IS GOOD FOR A LOT OF LAUGHS, MOAR EXPROSIONS, DRILLS, MANRINESS, HOT-BLOODEDNESS, PUNCHING PEOPLE IN THE FACE, KAMINA (hnnnnnnnnnnnngh Kamina), YOKO WHO IS A BADASS LADY SNIPER, SIMON WHO IS FECKING ADORABLE, NIA WHO IS EVEN MOER FECKING ADORABLE (I have a special place in my heart for Nia and I don't know why |D), AND BASICALLY EVERYTHING I COULD EVER ASK FOR IN A MECHA ANIME.

...except gdit I'm trying to watch the episodes I missed on Youtube, and apparently whatever company put them up on Youtube and Hulu for free ONLY PUTS UP THE ENGLISH DUB and I don't feel like scouring the internet for the subs right now, so I have to watch the dub. I mean, I'm sure the dub isn't terrible, I just wanted the sub more. :c


Then I watched the new Alice in Wonderland.

It was....confusing, and I won't say more because I'm too tired to bother. |D

IT'S REALLY SILLY and also really sad sometimes AND THEN IT'S REALLY AWESOME but there is a decent amount of ladyfail BUT YOKO AND NIA ARE SO AWESOME I IGNORE IT but just so you're aware. Also, if proper scientific explanations are important to you, this show will burrrrrrrrn you like sunlight on a vampire. XD

I keep saying TTGL is an anime for anime fans. It's basically just Saturday morning cartoons amped to the nth degree. I happen to think the whole show is tongue-in-cheek, but that doesn't keep it from being bright, colorful, and wholly enjoyable.

There are times when it definitely feels kind of tongue-in-cheek. It's one of those shows where you feel like the people making it are having just as much fun as the people who get to watch it.

I LOVE TTGL!!!!! *A*

I watched rather recently because fandom exploded and loved it and I was....too busy to enjoy it. Than ironside was like "WATCH IT" and I did because I have no spine.

A-and just a;klfj;da I REGRET NOTHING. It's just such a cute show and just....so weird. I love it. I love Simon, Kamina, Yoko and Nia; basically, the whole fucking cast. I love Simon/Nia and Kamina/Yoko a-and just, omg, all of my kinks for a silly, horribly not feminist, anime and just I don't care.
