After catching up on Star Driver, it's time for META, ROUND TWO.
Next episode (16), we're getting Takuto's backstory (or at least some of it).
Think about it. When was the last time you watched a show where it took sixteen episodes to delve into the titular character's motivations and personality? The past several episodes, we've been delving into the characters and motivations of every other person on the island except Takuto and Sugata. We literally know more about Kanako as a person than we do about Takuto. Hell, we know more about Jaguar as a person than we do about Takuto.
Takuto is the main character of a show that obscures everything from his genuine thoughts to his personal history without us really realizing that something's off. Most shows that keep the main character opaque, you know what they're up to. You know the main character is a closed book. Typically the main character of such a show will be antisocial, dark, non-talkative, Lone-Rangery... the list goes on. Takuto is none of those things. Takuto is open, cheerful, social, friendly, a team player... and yet, we only know as much about him as he is willing to show. We only see the social mask he wears, the same as we would with any person IRL with whom we interact.
Unlike the other characters from the island, with whom we have been allowed to intimately interact as viewers, Takuto is an outsider to us.
Just as he is an outsider to the islanders.
I was gonna meta some more but then I got bored :V
