Toy Story 3
Oh. My. God.
I am convinced Pixar made this movie with me in mind. That is, not "me" me, but "me" as in the kids, including me, who all saw Toy Story when it was first in theaters (I was four years old). This movie is dark. This movie is scary. This movie is heartbreaking. This movie will not be so easily understood by/accessible to the supposed target audience.
The opening sequence was so amazing it took my breath away. After opening two movies watching Andy act out his scenarios with his toys, we opened this movie seeing how one of these scenarios would look in Andy's imagination. And it was GLORIOUS. I want all of these phrases to become memes within the next forty-eight hours: Attack Dog with Built-In Forcefield, DEATH BY MONKEYS, "Oh no! The orphans!" and Fifty-Foot Tall Mechanical Baby.
Andy was hot. NGL. I was like, "hnnnnnnnnngh hnnnnnnnnnngh hnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngh" every time he was on screen.
The daycare, omg. That whole thing was just. I. Aaah. This movie was not made for children! No children would appreciate the playing on all the prison tropes! And that monkey. THAT GODDAMNED MONKEY. Oh god, that monkey will be visiting my nightmares tonight. D': I think the rolly telephone is my new favorite character.
Lotso's backstory was great. Very well done. Dark, though. This entire movie embodied all the things that secretly disturbed my thoughts when I was young about how the toys will manage when Andy grows up. (Honestly? Without lying or exaggerating, I can remember my first existential crisis resulting from me trying to imagine what living forever in a Dumpster as a toy would be like. I WAS A CHILD WHO THOUGHT ABOUT THINGS LIKE THAT.)
Bonnie was so cute omfg <3 I LOVE MR. PRICKLYPANTS OMG HE IS MY NEW FAVORITE. "I am trying to stay in character!"
And I actually started clapping in the theater when they busted out
THE CLAAAAAAAAAAAAW
Seriously, I almost peed myself.
At the end of the movie, I was crying so hard that little kids around me were staring at me. They didn't understand. These movies were my childhood. I had a Woody doll after seeing the first movie. So when Andy got that sad look on his face before deciding to give Woody to Bonnie as well, and then started talking about friendship and loyalty and all that, I just. I just started crying. And then when I tried to laugh to slow the tears down, the laugh turned into a sob, and the sob turned into more, and then I lost it.
I was a child when Andy was a child, and this movie has come out basically as my own childhood is ending, about how Andy's childhood is ending; about how change is an important part of life, even change that seems like the life you knew is coming to a close; about how those changes may be frightening and the world might be a scary place, and bad things might happen, but you can get through those things as long as you have each other; about how despite that, if you stick together, through thick and thin, you'll get through those bad times if you have faith and trust; about growing up, growing apart, and passing on the torch to those who come after us; and about how, above all, you can have a wonderful new experience in the world, even if you have to go out and make it for yourself.
So yeah. I cried. I cried so hard I gave myself a dehydration headache.
And finally, I'd like to conclude by saying that "Spanish Mode" is my new favorite euphemism. ;3
EDIT: FORGOT TO MENTION HOW AWESOME BARBIE WAS, HOLY MOTHER OF HOLY EVERYTHING. ALSO CROWNING MOMENT OF FUNNY GOES TO THE HEELS SCENE. YOU KNOW THE ONE.

I love these movies! Though, I do think they are still highly acessible to people of all ages (though it probably helps if you know the story of the first two stories). There were some nice ties-back to the other films (the "You've got a friend in me" song and that mention of Bo Peep! Poor Bo!) The garbage disposal was sort of scary (and probably even more so in 3-D) but kids are more stout of heart than we think. The Brave Little Toaster has a scene like that too...
Lotso's story was so sad because in a weird way it proved how loved he really was that all three were lost but the bear (Lotso) was so indispensible that her parents probably bought a new one and she never knew it was a different bear. (I had a cousin who had two of those "Pat the Bunny" bunnies, but never knew it. Her mom would switch one out for the other to clean them because the kid never put them down!)
Is it wrong that I love that at the very end, it was Woody Andy chose to take to college? Or that I was a little heart-broken that he gave Bonnie Woody. I imagine that Andy might come check up on Woody (well, and the others, but...Woody) at Christmas.
Plus, ooooh, lol. "The Orphans!"
