Specifically the Shinto gods, and you play the sun goddess Amaterasu, who's been reincarnated into the form of the white wolf Shiranui, in order to restore balance to the land and nature and defeat the eight-headed snake monster Orochi, and sklfjdslfjsk it's beautiful and addictive and really fun. :D
