First order of business:

say that you love me

Because we all need some lovin'. :D

Second order of business: COLLEGE THINGS!

So on Monday I woke up five minutes before my first class. D: That was pretty awful. My floor has gotten a tiny bit better in terms of not being puked on every night, but that could be because it's the middle of the week now. The weekend has never looked so uninviting. -_-

I was bumped down to Alto 1 in university choir.

...I'm not sure how I feel about that. I've never sung anything other than Soprano 1, to the point that I feel like being a Soprano 1 and being able to hit high notes well was part of my identity as a singer, you know? And then without any preamble, I walk into rehearsal on Tuesday and find out I've been moved. And that I have to get used to reading on a different staff in choral literature. And that I'll be singing under people.

It's kind of...

I don't know.

I don't want to sound like this is a demotion, because it's not. Intellectually, I know it's not. Either the director feels that I sounded better in the midrange when I tried out, or he already has a great deal of Sopranos and needs more Altos, or a combination of all these factors. And it isn't like Sopranos are better than Altos.

I just.

I feel like I have to completely reevaluate how I see myself as a singer.

also we're singing a terribly hard song that I also sang in high school and I have to UNLEARN the difficult top part and LEARN the even more difficult alto part, s-sob.

I feel like a bum for whining about this, so NEW TOPIC!

I am starting to love tofu. :D

Tell me about your week, fellow Interwebbers!

The thing about the choir is... as you said, the needs of this choir might be different than your high school choir, but also, your voice has matured and changed over the years too. It could be that while you *can* hit the high notes, if you have a high break, you might fit better as an Alto. Plus... from what you said, it might be that the director needs people who are strong singers who can sight read well and who won't drift over and start singing the melody. I always think it is more difficult to sing harmony rather than melody, which is usually the soprano part.

Either way, congrats on making it to choir! Gotta say, quite impressed you have the range for both S1 and A1!

Hope that the partying calms a bit. Soon people will have homework to deal with, taking up their getting-drunk time.

You may not need to dread the weekend. Partying generally calms down after the first couple of weeks of school.

You know, I honestly know how you feel with the choir thing. I'm used to being on top, too, but my choral teacher sat me in Soprano 2. The thing is, though, I know that the reason my teacher bumped me down was because he knows me and trusts me to be able to hold the harmony. It also probably has to do with balance issues. He probably needed more altos, and if you've got a wide enough range to be able to do both, well.

You know, that happened to me. I used to be a soprano, then joined another choir a year or so later and was put as an alto. I took voice lessons a few years after that and was told I'm mid-range-type soprano.

In short, I know how you feel. ♥

YOU'RE NOT A SOPRANO FTW. That sucks. Your voice is so prettiful. Does this look like a face that would lie to you (:DDDDDDDDDDDD)? Yeah, didn't think so.

My week has been alright. AP English is kicking my ass. I got the highest grade in my class on our Song of Solomon test *cough80cough* and teacher won't curve -_-; Anywho, now I'm in the midst of writing my seven-page essay on Bill Bryson's A Short History of Nearly Everything, joy (not) *sobs*

I started for volleyball too. I win. I made this save with a one armed dive that counted as a kill because the other team was like DUHWHAT? But then today in gym (first period D:), I jammed my thumb playing survival ball. EPIC FAIL.

It's so hard singing middle notes and picking out my note in a chord now. x_x I suppose I should view it as a CHALLENGE OF YOUTH!!oneone1

Me = NOT FTW -_-;

I like her style of teaching actually. I can really relate to her, and her tests for summer reading weren't too bad (well, easy for me to say considering I scored the highest).

I KNOW, RIGHT! :)
