SUPER COLLEGE RANDOM GOOOOO
Sep. 9th, 2009 10:43 amFirst order of business:
say that you love me
Because we all need some lovin'. :D
Second order of business: COLLEGE THINGS!
So on Monday I woke up five minutes before my first class. D: That was pretty awful. My floor has gotten a tiny bit better in terms of not being puked on every night, but that could be because it's the middle of the week now. The weekend has never looked so uninviting. -_-
I was bumped down to Alto 1 in university choir.
...I'm not sure how I feel about that. I've never sung anything other than Soprano 1, to the point that I feel like being a Soprano 1 and being able to hit high notes well was part of my identity as a singer, you know? And then without any preamble, I walk into rehearsal on Tuesday and find out I've been moved. And that I have to get used to reading on a different staff in choral literature. And that I'll be singing under people.
It's kind of...
I don't know.
I don't want to sound like this is a demotion, because it's not. Intellectually, I know it's not. Either the director feels that I sounded better in the midrange when I tried out, or he already has a great deal of Sopranos and needs more Altos, or a combination of all these factors. And it isn't like Sopranos are better than Altos.
I just.
I feel like I have to completely reevaluate how I see myself as a singer.
also we're singing a terribly hard song that I also sang in high school and I have to UNLEARN the difficult top part and LEARN the even more difficult alto part, s-sob.
I feel like a bum for whining about this, so NEW TOPIC!
I am starting to love tofu. :D
Tell me about your week, fellow Interwebbers!

Date: 2009-09-09 04:33 pm (UTC)You know, I honestly know how you feel with the choir thing. I'm used to being on top, too, but my choral teacher sat me in Soprano 2. The thing is, though, I know that the reason my teacher bumped me down was because he knows me and trusts me to be able to hold the harmony. It also probably has to do with balance issues. He probably needed more altos, and if you've got a wide enough range to be able to do both, well.
