I was meaning to do this for a while, and I guess now would be as good a time as any.

This is a giant question, but I think you might enjoy it: favourite and least favourite het, slash and femmeslash pairings from Naruto, & why. (So, basically, 6 things please ^_^)
*deep breath to begin monologue-ing*
Favorite het pairing: Itachi/Anko
This is my crackpairing of choice, and I will defend it to the death. Basically, I just love that they're both so messed up in their own horrible ways, and Anko's so strong and outspoken while Itachi's so strong and not-spoken-at-all, and I just love to imagine the interaction they may have had if they ever met/interacted in canon. (The fact that they never are shown to have interacted in canon only breaks my fangirl heart. T/_\T) I also wrote two one-shots with them, over at

Least favorite het pairing: Kakashi/Sakura
I know that basically all my fellow Narutards on my flist (except Jade) are busy sharpening their kitchen knives to come after me, so hear me out. I just can't see it in Kakashi's character to ever fall in love with Sakura. She's twelve years younger than him (yes, I know Anko's six years older than Itachi, but at least he's legal NYAH), totally wrecked about Sasuke and unsure about her feelings for
tl;dr DON'T LOOK AT ME, KSLJDKSL~
Ah, and we come to the slash pairings. I'm going to be straight-up: if this question was posed to me exactly a year ago, I would have dropped the computer and run. I used to be violently opposed to slash of any kind, as a product of growing up Roman Catholic. Then I mellowed out a little, and said, "Okay, it grosses me out, but if people like it, I'll just stand over here and ignore it."
But after becoming friends with at least three fantastic-awesome guys that happen to be homosexual, and reading Hero, by Perry Moore (READ THIS BOOK LAKJDSKLA~), and getting tricked into reading some slash stuff by

So I basically went and said, "clearly, if God did not want me to get over being prejudiced on this issue, God would not keep slapping me in the face with the analogical wet trout of this issue." (Apparently, I used to be a bigot. I'M SORRY. D:)
SO, UH, SO I HAVE A COUPLE OF SLASH PAIRINGS NOW THAT I LIKE, UM, A BIT~~ *steaming blush*
(people new to my flist are not well-acquainted enough with my old self to realize how big that was for me--HAI GUISE o/)
Favorite slash pairing: .....................
OH, GOD.
I CAN'T BELIEVE I JUST TYPED THAT.
*whimpers* IT--IT'S FEILYN'S FAULT, I--I- I- I- I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH MYSELF~~~ YOU DON'T REALIZE, I SWORE ON THE BLOOD OF A THOUSAND ANGRY BEAVERS THAT I WOULD DO ALL IN MY POWER TO OPPOSE THIS AT ONE POINT~
*deep breath, sighs* Well, even aside from feilyn, what really convinced me was thsi one-shot... I don't remember the title or the author, but it was on LJ somewhere and I followed a link to get there. I'll probably never find it again. But, it concerned Sasuke and him coming back after FINAL KONOHA BATTLEZORZ and he goes to the desert and gets trapped in this cave by this demon and is forced to tell stories of his life to stay alive, only that happens first, so we get the real story in flashback, and---The writing was gorgeous, and the plot phenomenal, and the characterization spotless, and I was practically in tears at its haunting beauty, and then I started to catch the gradually-becoming-more-obvious Sasuke/Naruto overtones, and I went, "OHSHIT."
So I had to choose. Hit the back button as if I were on fire, and never find out how that masterpiece of fanfiction literature ended, secretly hating myself forever? Or keep reading, knowing in my heart that I was a hypocrite and I'd hate myself forever?
I kept reading.
It was beautiful.
I REGRET NOTHING.
......
...But I still won't write it. now that I've said that out loud, give it a month or two.
Least favorite slash pairing: Kakashi/Iruka
GOOD GOD, AT LEAST TRY TO MAKE IT PLAUSIBLE. DO THEY EVEN INTERACT? Actually, they just did, as of Naruto 420, but still. I caught no subtext, except maybe some tones of, "You clearly can't handle this guy, Iruka, let Daddy do the work~" And their personalities totally clash. Fail.
I can't do the last two. I am completely indifferent to femmeslash. Literally, I have no opinion.

Date: 2008-10-11 03:56 pm (UTC)*laughs* Oh, man, I am so sorry. I think I have an idea of what your flist looks like, and... I'm sorry. I've been there where everyone is shipping something you don't see or enjoy at ALL and it sucks.
That said, totally word on Iruka/Kakashi. Their worldview is completely opposite, and not in the interesting way that provides conflict and could bring them closer.

Date: 2008-10-16 08:09 pm (UTC)Seriously though. You're amazing. Moreso than those people who look or smug and go 'Well I've always accepted homosexuality', it's the people who are brave enough to change their worldview like that who I think are awesome (I was totally one of the former). It takes guts.
Anyway! *kicks srs bznz* I have read the fic you were talking about, and I can't remember whether or not I mem'd it. I will check, at some point that is not now. But you're right it was fabulous. As for NaruSasu, yay! It's all about the potential, baby! I spazzed on them for way to long on my own journal, lol.
Itachi/Anko FTW! And I've almost finished your oneshot, I just have to type it up and decide whether or not it needs backstory, or can stand alone. I think it might need backstory.

YOU READ IT, TOO? Do you remember where you were that you found it? I'm thinking it was some community post asking for fic recs or something...

Date: 2008-10-20 04:18 am (UTC)I DID. IT WAS EPIC. Man, I have no idea where though. I will try to remember to check my memories again.
