This was Ruby's big huge Character Development moment, when MIMI CAME BACK because she left because he lashed out at her when he was angry and confused and self-hating, and then SHE CAME BACK WHEN HE NEEDED HER, and Archie and Maxie were like LOL YOU SUCK UGLY FISH, and Ruby was like, *sniffle* Mimi, you came back~ and then he MAKES A HEARTBREAKING SPEECH ABOUT INNER BEAUTY AND THEN HE GIVES HER THE BADGE SHE SHOULD HAVE HAD AND HE DOES A SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FOR HER AND THEN SHE ~EVOLVES~ and I was crying because it was so goddamn awesome and woobiefying. So basically they ended up on this island outside of time, and they had to learn how to control the orbs that control Groudon and Kyogre, the two legendaries that were going rampant and destroying the world, and they had to get back at this one specific time because that's when the time on the island and on our world line up, and both of them kind of know they might not survive, and Sapphire's basically like, right before they go, "Ruby, I like you! And I wanted to tell you before we go off and maybe possibly die, and even though I don't know who the kid is who saved me from that Salamence when I was little, I've been chasing his shadow for years not knowing who he is, and I thought I liked him, but I realized I projected all my hopes onto someone I'll never find, and even though you're kind of a douche, I think you're a good person deep down and--and I like you." AND THEN THEY GO THROUGH THE TIME VORTEX AND REACH THEIR WORLD, AND THEN RUBY PULLS HIS HAT OFF FOR THE REVEAL and dkjlasfjklafjklafjkj

Date: 2010-02-07 07:51 pm (UTC)IMO, the Ruby/Sapphire arc had the most well-constructed plot, the deepest-developed characters, and the best Crowning Moments of Awesome in the entire manga. Especially for being the fourth major arc and being the first to have no real continuity to the first arc (i.e. it can stand separately on its own, unlike the tangliness of the RBG/Y/GSC arcs and then the FRLG arc skipping back to that whole mess and then the Emerald arc attempting to tie it all together and ending up being this kind of plot/character trainwreck centered around the least likable main character. :/).
Although I do like the Emerald arc for the crazy insane amounts of Ruby/Saph UST. SERIOUSLY, EVERY TIME THEY APPEAR TOGETHER IN A PANEL, I AM LIKE, "WHY ARE YOU TWO NOT MAKING OUT OH MY GOD SERIOUSLY."

Absolutely. It was the best-paced, had the most interesting villains (in how there are two and they're both wrong, but they're not both wrong? AND THEY BOTH, IMO, STOOP LOWER THAN OTHER VILLAINS WE'VE MET BEFORE.) I really like its placement, actually, because it's a nice break from the first gen characters. I was surprised, at first, when I realized they're not going to come in to save the day (I'm not done with the arc, mind you, but), but that actually makes it so much more awesome. And these characters actually have families to deal with and worry about! Which makes it a lot more real. And and ajsdlkfjsal SO WONDERFUL.
NOW I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO THE EMERALD ARC. :DD
