Well, this is the end.

That was amazing. And sad. Oh, god, so sad.

I am in love with Lelouch's whole arc. He just. He. oh man, /sobs moar

I probably am reading it in too much, but I definitely sense a kind of Christ parallel, except since he's not divine at all but just a derpy, fail, overdramatic, weak, limited human being, he was limited to what he could do, which was to take all the world's hatred onto himself, and then let Suzaku kill him. It's kind of like in cultures where they'd create an effigy of someone and then burn it to represent that -- you know what, let's take a trip to Wikipedia:

A different type of effigy is used in some religious rituals to represent an undesired person or spirit. The effigy is burned as a sign of the participants' shared intent to banish the represented element from their lives. The best known British example is the burning of an effigy made of straw and/or old clothing depicting the 17th century Catholic conspirator, Guy Fawkes. In the past, criminals sentenced to death in absentia might be officially executed "in effigy" as a symbolic act.

You know, I like to think Lelouch became kind of the Guy Fawkes of his world. Maybe he became a legendary sort of figure, you know, kind of like Ivan the Terrible or Vlad the Impaler. Except he didn't inspire vampire legends - wait, no, of course not, instead it was said he SOLD HIS SOUL TO THE DEVIL to gain a CURSED POWER (kind of like how Rasputin was inexplicably a lich in that Anastasia movie) over people, but then the ~GREAT CHAMPION OF THE PEOPLE, ZERO~ killed him and saved the world. And Zero could be kind of the Robin Hood of CGworld. Except no one knows the true history but Suzaku ;~~~;

Or, it kind of reminds me of the end of The Matrix Revolutions, when Neo sacrificed himself to the Smiths and became one of them, and then used his deleting power on himself and in so doing, annihilated the Smith network. At least, that's what I thought happened. Revolutions was pretty vague, ngl.

I really want to read a fanfiction that takes place about thirty to forty years After the End, where two struggling con artists decide to attempt investment fraud by creating the perfect Broadway flop, entitled "Springtime for Lelouch." THAT'S ALL I'M SAYING, OKAY. (btw anyone who can score me an icon of Emperor Lelouch with text saying "Heil Myself" has my eternal gratitude)

Actually, for serious, I want to read a meta post-canon fanfic that's told like an oral history put together by an interviewer, many years later, trying to find the "real story" behind the 99th Britannian Emperor. Kind of like how Rant was done, with a whole bunch of testimonies woven into each other until a narrative starts to emerge from the stories. I'd do it, but I'd probably end up sounding too close to Palahniuk's style in Rant. Well, I don't know. Maybe that's a project I could consider over the summer, provided I ever move my ass on some of my standing projects. (Those Who Favor Fire comes to mind... /winces)

BUT ANYWAY SO YEAH, COME DISCUSS WITH ME 8D

and now I can finally go read fanfictions with no fear of spoilers ;~;

Except no one knows the true history but Suzaku ;~~~;

And Kallen! Kallen'd more or less figured it out!

And YES YES I love the end! I've heard people posit that Lelouch did survive because of the Geass - and that's in part how Nunnally could see that flashback of his plan or whatever - but sjdfkl I don't know. The ending has more meaning with him dead.

Yeah, Kallen did figure out some of it (AND THAT WAS SAD, TOO ;~~~;), but she doesn't know all of the relevant details, with the whole Ragnarok thing and Lelouch saving all humanity, and probably she doesn't have as much of an insight into his wacky motives as Suzaku does.

I like the end the way it is, tragic as it is. I think the ending is robbed of a lot of meaning if Lelouch lives. Also, I've read some of the "he's alive in X way" theories, and although they have some plausible bits, I don't buy a lot of the accepted fanon speculation on how the Code works.

True ;;

I agree. It's just more meaningful, after everything, if he is dead.

How do you think the Code works?

I don't know, lol. I just don't like the really convoluted theories some of the other fans have come up with, I feel like they're a bit unnecessary.

Which would, in a kind of loopy, roundabout way, explain the striking similarity between V and Zero's philosophies. ;D

*le gasp* The similarity is the reason I love Code Geass so much....
