It still does not cease to amaze me how much Pokemon Adventures makes me ridiculously, amazingly, insanely happy. Every character, every arc, everything. Even the stuff I don't like as much (e.g. the Emerald Arc, early GSC art), it still makes me happier than anything. I would say it is probably my favorite manga OF ALL TIME. (That, or FMA.)

MangaToshokan took down most of their manga, too. Including PokeSpe. Meaning my recaps will either have to continue without any pictures until I run out of manga volumes (and considering the pace at which Viz is bringing them over, that might take years), or be put on hold until I can find the damn stuff online somewhere else again.
I. I hate this. This is stupid and it sucks. I am buying this manga. I am not pirating it from the internets. I am probably quite selfish for making this statement, but I will make it anyway: why am I being punished for following the rules? For god's sake, I have Volume 8 on PRE-ORDER! /cries quietly
EDIT: It seems Onemanga still has up to Chapter 103 up (I thought those got taken down but I guess not - probably because they don't have the full series, it was overlooked). Better than nothing.

Jun. 19th, 2010 03:25 pmI'm sure most of you guys have heard by now, but a whole bunch of manga distributors have teamed up to start cracking down on scanlation sites. They've already hit Mangahelpers, and Onemanga is soon to follow.
I think this is a really bad decision on their parts. Without online manga sites, a good three-quarters of my current manga collection (which has grown to easily over one hundred volumes) would never have been purchased. Manga is expensive, and that makes it hard to justify buying on faith. But being able to read series beforehand and decide that this is worth spending money on definitely has gotten me into the vast majority of the series I currently am purchasing.
I understand the concern over people just reading scanlation sites and not buying volumes at all, believe me. But what they should be doing is what Viz and other animanga distributors have already begun doing with anime - put it online yourselves. Viz now offers many anime series, both dubbed and subbed, for free streaming on their site. Why can't they do the same with a manga viewer? Think about it - going page-by-page refreshes ensures that they can make a hell of a lot of money in on-screen advertisements. And they can make this online manga available for download to a Kindle or iPad or hard drive for a lower price than buying the volume itself. And there will always be people willing to buy the print volumes. I love manga volumes. They're very visually AND tactile-ly engaging.
Don't shoot yourselves in the foot, manga distributors. Work with new media, not against them.

A Super Cool New Thing
Jun. 5th, 2010 12:07 amI just had the most miserable day of work so far. No one communicated and everything went wrong and I wanted to punch babies.
HOWEVER I have decided that I wish to embark upon a new project! It occurs to me that I spend a lot of time lately flailing about Pokemanz on this journal, and I am aware that there are members of my flist who are not into Pokemon or kind of are but not really. This is, of course, perfectly fine (and probably a sign that you are all functional adults, as opposed to me, who is perpetually ten years old on the inside). BUT I AM WILLING TO BET THAT YOU HAVE NEVER ACTUALLY READ THE MANGA, WHICH IS COMPLETELY AMAZING.
I am a pretty good enabler and have already enabled several people into reading it, but these days, who has the time for reading? THUS, I AM EMBARKING ON A MISSION. AN AMAZING MISSION.
I am going to, volume by volume, week by week, recap and analyze Pokemon Special.
Okay, most of that was crap. I really just want to do it just to do it, there's no real intense burning evangelical reason.
